New Energy Jazz Orchestra + RPG
A fusion of traditional jazz instrumentation & live electronic music
RIT’s College of Liberal Arts Performing Arts Program is pleased to announce the return of the New Energy Jazz Orchestra to Ingle Auditorium on Friday, September 14.
The New Energy Jazz Orchestra was started by noted jazz performers, composers, and RIT faculty Carl Atkins and Jonathan Kruger in the spring of 2006.
Its legacy dates back to the popular 13-piece band, Sheer Energy, formed by Atkins in 1984, with several of the players from that group (including Kruger) being a part of this new ensemble.
The purpose of this venture was to establish a Rochester-based ensemble to perform new compositions for jazz orchestra, as well as to perform "classic" repertory by international jazz composers and performers, from both the past and the present.
The personnel of the orchestra is comprised primarily of Rochester-based jazz musicians.
This concert will be a unique collaborative performance by the New Energy Jazz Orchestra and artist & RIT faculty member Ryan Gaynor (RPG). Witness an exciting cross-collaboration between traditional jazz music and instrumentation with live downtempo/ambient/“trip-hop”-style electronic music performed in real-time by RPG.
RPG has been passionate about trance and progressive music for the past 10 years or so. He's guest DJed at clubs in the Rochester, NY and Buffalo, NY areas, and teaches an Electronic Music Production course at RIT. He has run a mix show on iTunes called The Trance Journey Podcast since 2007. He's also working on original productions and hopes to release this material soon. For more info, please visit:
