La classe operaia va in paradiso (AKA Lulu the Tool)
Author/Director: Elio Petri
After an accident, an assembly worker, who had been up to this point the model of hardwork and had set the bar high with his speed, much to the chagrin of his colleagues, comes to an emotional realization. He begins working with the union and joins a leftist student group. But after a demonstration in front of the factory gate, he is let go. In the end he feels isolated in his political work. A film, which sparked controversy, because it critically examines both sides, achieves an unsual result with its pathos and nervous pacing. Won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and the David di Donatello for best film in 1972.
The DVD in the MLTC Collection is Part 2 of a German-issued box set (MLTC ID 5131) containing two other Elio Petri films. It lists this movie as Die Arbeiterklasse Kommt Ins Paradies. Also note that the box set consists of Region 2 disks that will not play in most DVD players sold in the US and Canada.
