Why Annual Giving Matters

Scholarships make it happen for students like me

My name is Jared Athias and you make it happen.

When I walk along the Quarter Mile on RIT's campus, I'm usually in a hurry to get to class. Seeing everything that's going on and getting involved, I'm reminded of how happy I am to be at RIT. When I talk with new friends at Gracie's, Wallace Library or Gordon Field House, I learn we all have dreams and goals.

As a 3D Digital Design major, I'm following in the footsteps of my father, Franklyn '85, and my brother, Andrew '16, in attending RIT. My dad worked his way through school and one of his co-ops led to a job offer before he graduated. I'm excited by co-op opportunities to gain real-world experience in digital design so that I might one day be able to work for an animation studio like Pixar or DreamWorks.

I'm glad RIT continues to offer excellent programs and that student life continues to improve. I've joined the Juggling Club and I'm learning American Sign Language in the No Voice Zone. Some of my friends wouldn't have been able to attend RIT without scholarships. As I'm sure you know, sacrifices by families, work-study and loans aren't always enough.

All gifts make it happen for me and thousands of students here at RIT – not just while we are students but when we graduate and are in the real world making it happen. I believe in the power of giving and my father and brother do, too. Please join me and make your gift today.

P.S. Did you know many companies match gifts to universities? I didn't. Find out if yours does by clicking here.
