Emerson Challenge Goal Nears

The Emerson Challenge to raise $750,000 to endow an Undergraduate Research Fund in the College of Science is nearing its end date. RIT alumni and friends have already committed more than $500,000 to the campaign, which comes to a close on October 1.

The fundraising effort was launched with a challenge grant from the Fred L. Emerson Foundation. If we succeed in securing the additional $250,000 by October 1, a $1,000,000 endowment will become a source of funding that will help the College to:

  • Double the number of science students selected for full-time summer research
  • Draw more students to scientific fields and better prepare them for the rigor and challenges of advanced scientific study and a career devoted to research and discovery.

Undergraduate Research is a unique program in higher education. RIT’s College of Science was one of the first universities in the nation to expose undergraduates to real research where students work side by side with faculty mentors.
