The role of the Academic Advisor is to guide and support you through your time at RIT Dubai to help you successfully complete your degree and have a great experience in the process. Each student is assigned to an Academic Advisor based on their major, who will get to know you and meet with you regularly to follow your academic progress throughout your time at RIT Dubai.
Academic advising is an integral part of your education at RIT Dubai. It begins at New Student Orientation and continues through regular meetings each semester until graduation. Your Academic Advisors will support you in a wide range of areas including:
- program and graduation requirements
- course offerings
- other campus resources
- personal issues that are affecting your academic progress
- academic difficulties
- communication between you and your faculty
- university procedures, including study abroad and transfers*
What is My Role as a Student?
Although advisors are available to support you, YOU are ultimately responsible for your degree completion. You should become familiar with the requirements and policies of the university so you can make informed choices about the courses you take each semester. If you have any questions concerning your degree requirements and/or your progress at RIT Dubai, make sure to seek advice from your Academic Advisor.
What about my Faculty Advisor?
Each student at RIT Dubai will also be assigned to a Faculty Advisor, who is different than your academic advisor. Your Faculty Advisor will be an instructor in your major area of study. They will be an expert in their field and can therefore advise you more in depth about your major, professional/technical electives, as well as discuss with you about career and coop options.
* provided that their program of study or desired courses are offered in that campus.
