What's Happening in Wellness banner

Wellness is a key aspect of student life here at RIT. While your academics will take up a lot of your time and energy, it’s important to prioritize your physical and mental health, too. Along with wellness services, getting active in recreational activities and social events can boost your energy, motivation levels, and overall well-being. Take care of yourselves, Tigers!

Party PAWS: a realistic take on alcohol and cannabis use

Party PAWS is a comprehensive education and awareness program created to not only help students better understand alcohol and cannabis use, but also help to make informed and responsible decisions if you choose to consume.

If you are ever in a situation with alcohol or cannabis, be sure to take a Party PAWS:

  • PAUSE to check in with yourself before consuming more.
  • ASSESS what’s happening - take some time to take it all in.
  • WHY are you choosing to have another? Don't mindlessly consume.
  • SOLVE for the situation. Make an informed decision about what to do next.

Take it easy Tiger, it’s okay to take a Party PAWS.

Presented by Health Promotion and Substance and Addiction Intervention Services for the Deaf (SAISD).

Fear of failure, it's not all that bad!

You didn't speak up in class because you thought you might be wrong, you didn't say hello to someone because you were nervous they might not say hi back. If these scenarios sound familiar, you may be experiencing a fear of failure. Fear of failure can prevent you from trying new things, or psyche you out so much that you fail to act or make mistakes. To minimize fear of failure, try to keep things in perspective and be realistic about your expectations. If it doesn’t go as expected the first time, no worries! Just try again.

Each week, we are sharing a financial wellness tip to help you make the connection between financial management decisions, your overall wellness, and student success. Money touches every aspect of our lives, and a lack of financial literacy can cause unnecessary stress and negatively impact one’s mental and physical health.

Budgeting is an important financial literacy skill and budgeting your RIT Dining plan is a great starting place.  Here’s how to do it:

  • Check out TigerSpend. TigerSpend allows you to check your dining dollars balance, see recent transaction history, and set low balance email alerts for yourself. You can even designate another person to receive low balance alerts, add funds, and access TigerPay. TigerPay is a digital payment credential that can be used in RIT Dining facilities if you forget or temporarily lose your RIT ID.

  • Use the Meal Plan Spend Down chart to determine if you are on target with your dining plan spending throughout the semester. Dining habits vary from person to person, but this is a great tool to gauge where you should be at in any given week of the semester with your dining plan. This can help you determine if you need to adjust your dining habits for the remainder of the semester or if you should consider adding additional funds.

  • Don’t forget, as of the 2021-2022 academic year, all meal plans have been converted to Dining Dollars only plans. Students may upgrade a meal plan, add another meal plan, or add Voluntary Dining Dollars at any time throughout the semester. Any unused Dining Dollar balances will remain active until graduation or exit from RIT.
