3-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition Prep Session

When: September 05, 2025, 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Where: Online

3-Minute Thesis (3MT) presentations are concise, three-minute research talks given by graduate students. The format emphasizes effective communication of complex research to a non-specialist audience, typically with one static slide. These presentations promote effective communication skills, public engagement, networking, and professional development. This prep session will provide strategies for presenting your research concisely and persuasively. Receive tips on public speaking, slide design, and body language to ensure your delivery is confident, clear, and impactful. Get answers to questions, share insights with fellow participants, and collaborate in a supportive environment. Engage in interactive exercises to practice condensing your research into a concise format, with constructive feedback from experienced facilitators from the Expressive Communication Center.

Create your Resume or CV - A Career Writing Workshop for Graduate Students

When: September 08, 2025, 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm
Where: Student Innovation Hall, Room/Location: 1600

This workshop will help you build your resume and curriculum vitae (CV). Speakers will discuss what should be included on a resume and a CV and how to format and organize the content. Along with the presentation, you will have the opportunity to work on your resume and CV, as well as get help and advice from RIT staff.
Bring your computer, your current CV or resume, and a sample job description that you are interested in applying to.

Leadership Retreat: High Ropes

Join us for our first Leadership Retreat of the semester. This event will help you reach new heights, enhance your leadership skills in everyday settings, and identify the skills you want to acquire and develop. Come enjoy a number of team-building exercises, group games, and more. Buses will depart from the Sentinel Statue.

There are two time slots to choose from, which include travel time.

When and Where:
September 06, 2025
9:30 am - 1:30 pm or 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Room/Location: YMCA Camp Arrowhead (20 Arrowhead Rd, Pittsford, NY 14534)

Activities will primarily take place outdoors.

Ph.D. student’s NASA-funded research leads to new insight on exoplanets

Attila Varga, an astrophysical sciences and technology Ph.D. candidate at RIT, is proud of his research that has led to new understanding about a newborn exoplanet that is shrinking due to the harsh X-rays of its nearby host star.

Cybersecurity student Emery Rios awarded Norman Miles academic excellence award

Emery Rios, a combined accelerated cybersecurity BS/MS student, was selected for the Norman A. Miles Award for Academic Excellence in Study for the 2025-2026 academic year. The award is given to a student who began their studies as a first-year student at RIT and is entering their final year of undergraduate study with the highest grade point average across the university.

Lighting the Way

Where: Student Alumni Union, Davis Room

Join us for this annual RIT tradition welcoming incoming women and nonbinary students. Participants will receive a commemorative lantern to light their route through campus.
