Cybersecurity in Healthcare Summit 2023

When: October 2, 2023, 8:00 am - 2:00 pm
Where: ESL Global Cybersecurity Institute

Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and the New York Chapter of HIMSS are partnering on a Summit in Upstate NY to share information and bring together the community of organizations and individuals to help protect healthcare from cybersecurity risks.

The Summit will share the real-life risks facing different types of provider organizations, and will explore effective approaches and technologies to defend against these risks.

Thinking Critically about Scientific Innovations + Medical Policy: A lecture, case study, and conversation

How do advances in science affect maternal health policies and interventions? What effect do political and social factors have on the health of pregnant women and their babies? Medical anthropologist and science and technology scholar Natali Valdez, Ph.D., draws on her critical qualitative research and her recent book “Weighing the Future: Race, Science and Pregnancy Trials in the Postgenomic Era” for a talk focused on the relationship between emergent science and maternal health policy.

Researchers explore how embracing AI can create new opportunities for traditional artisans

Noguera and Cardini recently worked with a group of Guatemalan artisans— Christa Dieguez, Dany Tinoco, and Carlos Cabrera— to create a set of sand cast bronze door knockers in collaboration with generative AI tools. The sculptures are on display in RIT’s Bevier Gallery through Sept. 30.

Upcoming lecture explores how social and political factors impact scientific and medical innovation

Natali Valdez will present the 2023 Fram Signature Lecture. Natali, a medical anthropologist and science and technology scholar, has found that certain social and political factors surrounding maternal medical policy has thwarted scientific and medical innovations in this field.

Upcoming Graduate Study Abroad Survey

Be on the lookout for a survey from the Global Office about studying abroad at the graduate level. What kinds of programs are you interested in?  Where would you go, if you could go anywhere?  The office is looking to solicit feedback from students to create more programs for graduate students in the future.

The survey will launch in early October.
