GO TIGERS!!!

From the Desk of Jackie Nicholson - Executive Director of Athletics

Dear Tiger Family,

It is with great excitement that I write to you this month. This past Sunday, we welcomed over 650 student-athletes back to campus to usher in the start of a new school year. There is truly a buzz in the air, as we are entering our first full year of athletic activities, post-pandemic. The student-athletes, coaches and administrators are excited to be back on campus and looking forward to the start of athletics competitions.  As we enter into the 2022-23 school year, we are focused on building the COMMUNITY within athletics.

While we are looking forward to a strong fall season, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on what a busy summer it was for RIT Athletics. We capped off the end of the spring 2022 athletic season in great fashion with the RIT Men’s Lacrosse team winning the 2022 Division III National Championship Title. They became just the sixth team in NCAA Division III history to win back-to-back titles. Our annual Tiger Open Golf Tournament was a another success, thanks in large part to a sold-out field of 144 golfers. Thank you again to each golfer and sponsor for investing in Tiger Athletics. Next spring, we will celebrate our 40th Annual Tiger Open, on June 5, 2023 at Penfield Country Club. We hope to see everyone there. Our Men’s Soccer team traveled to Costa Rica for a nine-day trip and volunteered in the local community and competed against several local teams. We wrapped up a busy summer of hiring within athletics, welcoming six new members to the Tiger Family.

In October, we will induct both the Class of 2021 and 2022 into the RIT Athletics Hall of Fame during Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend. We look forward to honoring 15 individuals who had a tremendous impact on Tiger Athletics over the years.

Athletics is excited about the ensuing academic year and all signs are pointing to a very competitive and fun-filled season. However, your support is critical for athletics to achieve both academic and athletic success and win championships. Please continue to support the student-athletes by purchasing season tickets for Men’s & Women’s Hockey, attending both home and away athletic events and donating to various athletic initiatives. Let’s make 2022-23 the year of the “Tigers.”

Thank you for your commitment and support. I look forward to another great year

GREETINGS FROM RIT VOLLEYBALL

We are excited for the 2022 season! We have 10 returners who have been working very hard this offseason and are determined to continue their growth in our program. We are also anxious to see our newcomers establish their place within our team. Having only had a few practices, there is plenty to be decided. We can’t wait for the season to really get underway and watch our growth. This group has high expectations. I look forward to where this team’s journey will take us.

We would also like to have a little reflection. We had a great season last fall. It was fantastic to host an NCAA Regional again. It had been a few years since that occurred. Our recent graduates Taylor Higgins, Katie Hobler and Kiana Walker completed fantastic careers and left their imprint on RIT Volleyball. Their leadership, communication and competitiveness played a huge part in the success the team had during their careers.

We are looking forward to having alumni, friends and our families with us. The past couple of years may have kept us apart when compared to our typical game-day following, but we ended last year with such an enthusiastic home court atmosphere during our two NCAA matches. We appreciate that support! We hope to see all of you on campus and/or traveling with us and keeping that enthusiastic momentum going!

GO TIGERS!!!!!

MEN'S SOCCER - COSTA RICA 2022

Last week, our team returned from an eight-day preseason trip to Costa Rica. The trip provided our 26 student-athletes a once-in-a-lifetime cultural, soccer, and growth experience.

After a couple of years of planning, fundraising, and generous support of alumni, family, & friends, we had originally planned to travel in August of 2022. The pandemic made that impossible. The events of the last two years made the team that much more grateful for this opportunity.

We had cultural experiences in San Jose, La Fortuna, and Tamarindo, and played matches against Club Sport Herediano, Asociación Deportiva San Carlos, and Asociación Deportiva Municipal Liberia. In San Jose, we spent a morning with a second-grade class at Escuela Fina San Juan, a school in an under-priveleged neighborhood of San Jose. The children entertained the team with a traditional Costa Rican dance, and our team reciprocated with a soccer clinic. The children were so enthusiastic and appreciative of the time our team spent. Our team was equally affected.

A zip line experience in the rain forest of La Fortuna was a mid-trip highlight followed by our time on the Pacific Ocean beach in Tamarindo. The trip gave us a fantastic experience to build on through preseason and the rest of 2022.
