Associate Director/Scheduling and Event Management
Department for Intercollegiate Athletics

A Message From Rickey Stevens

I am fortunate and blessed to have an amazing opportunity to be in the position that I am in right now. After playing football oversees for five years, I had no idea that this is the road life would take me down, but I am loving every second of it.

In my current role as Assistant Athletic Director for Scheduling and Event Management, I have a hand in various functions in our day-to-day operations within the athletic department. With constant change on a daily basis, no one day is the same and it allows me to grow more as an individual.

One of my main roles within the department is overseeing scheduling within our Event Management System. This allows me to manage all of our athletic indoors and outdoor athletic facilites, as well as handle all scheduling for the varsity sports, but recreation and external requests as well. I also assist in the maintenance of all these facilities.

I serve as the liaison for all visiting institutions as well as creating and signing contracts for all varsity competitions. I also assist in the oversight of all our home competitions, including the set up and tear down of events and making sure the event runs smoothly from a fan and team perspective.

I also assist in student-employment management within the athletics department. I serve as the hiring manager and supervisor for all student workers within the athletic department, and I have the pleasure of working with roughly 70 plus students throughout the week.

I report directly to Jeff Siegel who is our Associate Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and assist him with any other needs within the department.

I work with a great team who makes it a pleasure to come into work every day. I also have the pleasure of interacting with our student-athletes who are amazing individuals and enjoy getting to know them. I look forward to seeing where this journey takes me and all the great things that are in store for RIT Athletics across the board!

Greetings From RIT Swimming and Diving

The Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving teams look forward to putting the finishing touches on a remarkable 2022-2023 campaign.  We head off to compete at the Liberty League Championship this week with the goal of repeating as men’s team champion and improving on the women’s second-place finish.

The men’s team is ranked 18th in Division III for the first time in program history.  Co-captains Matthew Ciminelli, Aidan Daudier, Neko Ferrara and Brendan Kapp are poised to help the Tigers rewrite the record book and have a strong presence at the national level.  The team of Mike Atanasoff, Aidan Daudier, Jake Sapp and Drew Scheib set school records in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays this season. Kapp set the team, pool and Liberty League records in the 200 breaststroke, ranking him as high as eighth in Division III. Atanasoff set the Judson Pool record in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, while Sapp set a pool record in the 100 freestyle. Theo Heilman broke the record in the 1,000 freestyle and sophomore diver Gellert Kish set the pool record in 1-meter diving. The men went 12-0 in dual meets, highlighted by wins against Liberty League rivals Ithaca and RPI as well as a thrilling win against nationally ranked SUNY Geneseo. The men also won the 2022 Don Richards Invitational.

The Women’s team, led by senior captains Elizabeth Kisker, Sam Russell and KhaVy Sangasy have enjoyed a successful 2022-23 season.  The women finished 9-3 in dual meets and won the 2022 Don Richards Invitational.  2022 Liberty League Swimmer of the Year Anna Peshenko is currently ranked in the top-20 in Division III in the women’s 200 breaststroke.  The relay team of Peshenko, sophomore Kimberly Dobie, Russel and Sangasy set the Judson pool record in the 200 free relay earlier this year.  The women’s team is poised to rewrite the Tiger record board at the Liberty League championships, while Peshenko looks to qualify for the NCAA Championship meet for the second year in a row along with several of her teammates.

While the teams have performed extremely well, people are really noticing the culture of support and unity that the student-athletes demonstrate.  It is apparent to those watching that they care for the success and well-being of our teammates.  They are a special group.  This dedication to each other has carried the team through a grueling season and enables them to achieve great moments in competition.  I am excited to see what this special group does to finish the 2022-2023 season.

Thank you for supporting us!

From The Desk of Coach Bovenzi

The RIT Wrestling team has had another competitive season in 2022-23. The team is ranked No. 12 in Division III and is preparing for the post season. The Tigers amassed a 9-3 record in dual matches with the only lossescoming against nationally ranked opponents.

Finishing in the top 15 at the National Duals, winning the 55th Annual RIT Invitational, and the Will Abele invitational at Ursinus College are a few of the regular season highlights. Senior All-American Austin Lamb is ranked fourth at 165 lb., while senior Colby Giroux is 12th at 184 lb. Senior Christopher Horton is 20th at 141 lb. and sophomore Josh Harkless is 20th at 197 lb.

As the post season approaches, several Tigers have had seasons of note and look to finish strong. First-year Gabe Scalise has a tournament victory and several other high placements, while sophomore Nate DeGroff and juniors Josh Post and Liam Strouse have had high finishes.

Sophomores Dara Heydapur and Lee Rubin and first-years Isaiah Shafer and Tyler Balent , seniors Ben Dougherty and James Ost and junior Michael Glynn III had high tournament placements this year.  The team will compete at the Mideast/Southeast Futures designed for underclassmen who are not participating in the Regionals, the Mideast Regionals, our national qualifying tournament, and the NCAA Championships in Roanoke, Virginia.

We are looking for a strong finish to the 2022-23 season.

RIT Head Rowing Coach Jim Bodenstedt announced he will retire this spring following the completion of the 2022-23 season.  The only head coach in program history, he helped found the team as a club sport 30 years ago before overseeing the transition to intercollegiate status in 1996. The women won their first Liberty League Championship in 2017 and advanced to the NCAA Rowing Championships for the first time in program history, finishing fifth overall, and guided the men to the Dad Vail Regatta Championship in the JV8 in 2001 and the lightweight 4+ in 2006.
