What's Happening in Wellness?

Stop the spread of germs

With cold and flu season upon us, it is important for us to do what we can to help stop the spread of germs. Keep these tips in mind to help keep yourself and our RIT community healthy:

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water
  • Cover your mouth and nose with tissues when you cough or sneeze
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Stay away from others as much as possible when you are sick
  • Avoid or minimize contact with sick people

I'm sick - now what?

Schedule an appointment
If you are feeling ill, the Student Health Center is here to help. Appointments are available Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. You can schedule, change, or cancel an appointment on the RIT Wellness Portal, or by contacting the office at 585-475-2255.

After-hours care
The Student Health Center offers an on-call nurse advice service for immediate medical concerns when the Student Health Center is closed. Call the office at 585-475-2255 and select the nurse advice option.

Be prepared
Whether you're living on- or off-campus, you should be prepared with all the items you might need in case you're not feeling well. Here are some items we recommend stocking up on now:

  • Antigen/home COVID-19 tests. Work with your local pharmacy to get free home COVID-19 tests through your insurance or purchase them on campus at the Cornerstore, Global Village Market, and RIT Inn.
  • Well-fitting masks. Stock up on some KN95 and/or N95 masks. We will likely have intermittent infection surges and mask requirements on campus may change.
  • Thermometer. Thermometers are a good idea so you can check your temperature when you are not feeling well.
  • Over the counter symptom relief medications. Home medical supplies including acetaminophen/Tylenol, ibuprofen, sore throat lozenges, and simple food such as instant noodles, tea, and broth are useful to have on hand for when you are feeling ill.

Each week, we are sharing a financial wellness tip to help you make the connection between financial management decisions, your overall wellness, and student success. Money touches every aspect of our lives, and a lack of financial literacy can cause unnecessary stress and negatively impact one’s mental and physical health.

FAFSA Renewal

If you are receiving federal student aid, such as a Pell Grant or Direct Student Loan, then you submitted the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®). Did you know the application form applies to a single academic year and has to be renewed annually for you to continue to be eligible to receive funding?

The FAFSA for the 2023-2024 academic year opened on Oct. 1 - it's not too early to renew your form! Since you already completed the form for the current academic year, a majority of your information will be pre-filled and you should only have to update information that may have changed and provide updated income and tax information.

It is highly recommended that you fill out the FAFSA form as soon as you can to ensure you don’t miss out on available aid! Click here for additional tips on renewing the FAFSA.

Be sure to follow the Financial Literacy team on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram for more financial tips throughout the semester!
