Give Yourself a Break

During the holidays, it seems like we are always doing more. More socializing, more spending, more eating… But what about doing more for you?

As we round out the end of the semester and head into winter break, we challenge you to take some time to take care of yourself this holiday season. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Breathe. Feeling overwhelmed? Frustrated? Worried? Take a deep breath in. Now, a deep breath out. Calming your mind and settling your thoughts can go a long way in keeping yourself in the right mental space.

  • Relax. You’ve spent all semester working hard and have been constantly on the go. Take time to sit, relax, and turn off your brain for a bit.

  • Express. Choose a style you feel best suits you to express yourself. Write (no, not a research paper) and spend some time putting your thoughts down on paper - it can be anything! Reflect on your current mood, something you are grateful for, or write an old-fashioned letter to a friend. Maybe art is your style of choice. Try sketching, painting, graphic design – whatever suits your fancy!

  • Amusement. Laughter and joy is good for the soul. Call or spend time with the person that makes you laugh harder than anyone else - and enjoy it!

  • Kindness. There are so many opportunities to show kindness and give to those in need, which can make you feel good, too. Pick an organization you care about and give the way you want to give instead of how you think you are supposed to.

Each week, we are sharing a financial wellness tip to help you make the connection between financial management decisions, your overall wellness, and student success. Money touches every aspect of our lives, and a lack of financial literacy can cause unnecessary stress and negatively impact our mental and physical health.

Money Mondays:
Financial Literacy Series Coming Spring 2022

If you are unsure of how to stay financially healthy, or you are interested in expanding upon your existing financial literacy skills, consider participating in the “Money Mondays” series starting in January 2022.

Between January and April, the Financial Literacy team will host a session each month. Sessions will cover a wide variety of topics, including financial literacy resources, budgeting, money and relationships, finding jobs, student loan repayment responsibilities, and much more. Keep an eye out in January for more information on this series and how to register for the upcoming sessions.

Good luck with finals exams and safe travels in between semesters!
