      COVID-19 Booster Vaccine

Earlier this month, the university announced the COVID-19 booster vaccine deadline has been extended to February 28 for those eligible to receive the booster. For more information on booster eligibility, visit the CDC booster shot eligibility webpage.

The on-campus COVID-19 Booster Vaccine Clinics are filling up quickly. If you cannot attend an upcoming campus booster clinic, vaccination site resources are available to help you locate COVID-19 vaccine options in the area, including vaccine appointment options offered in Monroe County. Monroe County offers a variety of mass vaccination sites throughout the week with the ability to schedule an appointment in advance online or by phone with transportation assistance.

Matters of the heart - all you need is love

With February being the month of love, it seems fitting to discuss ways to keep your heart healthy, but here is one piece you may not have thought about… Love. Love is just as important to our health as many other factors!

When it comes to love, more doesn’t necessarily mean better. Health psychologist Shilagh Mirgain explains that it is the quality of our relationships, or how we feel about ourselves, that really matters.

Consider these ways to bring more love into your life:

      • Spending time with loved ones (even in a virtual space) can help reduce stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure, and may even improve your cardiovascular health.
      • Show yourself some love! Be mindful of your self-talk, and identify one or two attributes that you love about yourself.
      • Spread more love around campus: expressing appreciation, smiles, and kind gestures to others, not only makes others feel good, but gives back to you as well!
      • Express more outward appreciation in class as a way to develop more personal connections.

“Love, whether through affection or compassion, truly is a powerful force. When we work intentionally to bring it into our lives, it really can be life changing,” says Mirgain.

Each week, we are sharing a financial wellness tip to help you make the connection between financial management decisions, your overall wellness, and student success. Money touches every aspect of our lives, and a lack of financial literacy can cause unnecessary stress and negatively impact our mental and physical health.

Credit Cards, Interest Rate, and Paying Down Your Balances

Did you go a little overboard on holiday spending? Open those credit card bills and pay down your balances as soon as you can! Interest rates continue to rise and this makes it more expensive to carry credit card debt. If you haven’t paid your balances in full yet, consider making this your next financial goal.

Having a difficult time paying the bill at once? You can make multiple payments on your balance each month. If you’re paying interest on an outstanding average daily balance, you’ll pay less over time if you send in money when you have it rather than waiting until you receive the next monthly bill.
