    Spice Up Your Plate!

Eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring! Try adding your favorite flavors to meals and snacks. Consider adding a squeeze of lemon juice to a homemade sauce or add fresh garden herbs to salads, dips or soup. Flavor is an important part of a healthy diet because it helps you enjoy eating nutritious foods – and eating more of them!

Recipe of the Week: Flavored Popcorn

Did you know that popcorn is a whole grain? Since it is a whole grain, this snack is high in fiber which helps your digestive system run smoothly and can help lower your cholesterol. It is recommended to make popcorn with a heart-healthy oil, like olive oil. Add some of your favorite seasonings and you have a delicious snack!

    • Ingredients
      • 2 cups plain popcorn
      • 1 tsp olive oil
      • Choice of seasoning (chili powder, garlic powder, paprika, nutritional yeast, or a combination of your favorite spices!)
    • Instructions
      • Pop popcorn per instructions
      • Top with a teaspoon of olive oil and your choice of seasoning(s)
      • Toss all together and enjoy!

Water you waiting for? Choose water!

Water is a crucial nutrient which makes up 60% of our bodies. According to the Cleveland Clinic, water is important for metabolic functions, regulating body temperature, and delivering oxygen around the body.

An average-sized adult should aim to drink half of their body weight in ounces of water, according to nutritionist Brad Davidson. For example, a 160lb college student should aim for 80 ounces of water each day.  If you are very active, spend a lot of time in the heat, and/or consume a lot of coffee, protein, or alcohol, your water intake should be higher.

    To increase water consumption:

    • Set attainable goals to increase your water intake
    • Carry a water bottle everywhere and fill it up often
    • Choose water over other beverages
    • Set reminders on your phone if you struggle to drink enough water

Each week, we are sharing a financial wellness tip to help you make the connection between financial management decisions, your overall wellness, and student success. Money touches every aspect of our lives, and a lack of financial literacy can cause unnecessary stress and negatively impact our mental and physical health.

    Buy Now, Pay Later

'Buy Now, Pay Later' (BNPL), sometimes called “point of sale loans”, are the latest online shopping innovation to go mainstream. They are growing in popularity and young consumers have the most to gain since they have had less time to build a solid credit history. As we've covered before, building up a track record of on-time payments is one of the best ways to boost your credit score. However, short-term BNPL loans allow consumers who might not have access to other forms of credit a way to establish this good history. Learn more about the risks and rewards of 'Buy Now, Pay Later' >
