COVID-19 Booster Vaccine Requirement Suspended Indefinitely

The university recently announced the COVID-19 booster vaccine requirement has been suspended indefinitely. We continue to strongly encourage everyone in the RIT community to get a COVID-19 booster when eligible, as it effectively prevents severe illness, hospitalization, and death. For more information on booster eligibility, visit the CDC booster shot eligibility webpage.

Vaccination site resources are available to help you locate COVID-19 vaccine options in the area, including vaccine appointment options offered in Monroe County. Monroe County offers a variety of mass vaccination sites throughout the week with the ability to schedule an appointment in advance online or by phone with transportation assistance.

Upon receiving your COVID-19 booster vaccine, you must complete the COVID-19 Booster form under the "My Forms" tab in the RIT Wellness Portal.

Looking for an instant mood lift and a break from studying? Head outside!

Just five minutes of activity outdoors can improve your mood, according to a recent report for the University of Essex. When authors of the report reviewed ten studies on the effects of nature on various aspects of mental health, they found that even a few minutes of outdoor time each day increased people's happiness.

To get the biggest mood boost, researchers found that being active in the outdoors is best. Consider a longer walk down the Quarter Mile or playing catch outside with a floor mate. You'll feel better after!

Each week, we are sharing a financial wellness tip to help you make the connection between financial management decisions, your overall wellness, and student success. Money touches every aspect of our lives, and a lack of financial literacy can cause unnecessary stress and negatively impact our mental and physical health.

    Loan Repayment

Graduation day will be here before you know it! That also means the start of loan repayment will be here, too.

According to Great Lakes Higher Education Service Corporation, the following are ten things to know and do before you leave college:

    • KNOW your loan servicer. Program their contact information into your phone and follow them on social media.

    • KNOW your loan balance. Find and organize your loans from your credit report.

    • KNOW your first due date. Lock in your monthly due dates and prepare for success.

    • KNOW your repayment options. Standard plans aren’t for everyone, so talk with your servicer.

    • DO update your contact information. Set up and online account with your servicer and update your contact information.

    • DO seek forgiveness. Research loan forgiveness options for teachers, nurses and public service employees.

    • DO watch for impostors. Don’t be duped by scams, work with your servicer instead.

    • DO read all the memos. Read email from your servicers as they have info to help you repay your loans.

    • DO weigh the pros & cons of consolidation. Single monthly and possible lower payments vs higher interest rates and loss of federal benefits.

    • DO pay down interest before it caps. Be strategic as interest could be accruing. Start paying high interest loans first.

If you have borrowed outside of the federal loan program, you should contact your lender to find out when your repayment begins.

Did you miss any of the Money Mondays sessions this semester? These sessions covered topics on budgeting and savings goals, understanding the key elements of a job offer, strategies for evaluating multiple offers, and how to negotiate your salary requirements. You can find recordings of the sessions on the Financial Literacy website. Follow the Financial Literacy Team on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for more financial tips and tricks.
