Hospitality and Tourism Management

Program Overview

The BS degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management prepares students for a wide variety of careers in the lodging, food and beverage, travel and entertainment industries.  HTM graduates find positions in lodging and food service operations, accounting, property development, asset management, health care management, marketing and sales, and human resource management. In addition to the core hospitality industry knowledge, students are able to acquire specialist knowledge in diverse areas such as data analytics, robotics, web designing and social media management, and in real-estate finance, social media marketing, or in accounting. 
The MS degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management prepares students to step into numerous mid-level hospitality and tourism management and government policy positions. The program is focused on hospitality business planning, branding, economic management, and development of quality processes to deliver exceptional leadership within many service and corporate settings and at post-secondary academic institutions.

Cooperative Education & Experiential Education Component

  • The BS program requires each student to complete two semesters (30 weeks) of practical cooperative education experience.
  • Co-op is usually completed in the summer following the sophomore and junior years, or during any two semesters in the junior and senior years, except the final semester of the senior year, when students are required to be in residence on campus.

Student Skills & Capabilities

·          Students receive a broad view of service management, hospitality, travel and client care through a common core of courses.            They will have a thorough understanding of the business of hospitality. 
·          Students recognize the interrelationships among the food, lodging, travel, and meeting management industries.
·          Competencies in problem-solving and decision-making developed through individual and team-based class projects, computerized exercises and industry-related activities.
·          Emphasis on the importance of understanding other cultures, languages, and viewpoints. The majority of students participate in study abroad and/or international programs in Dubai and Italy.
By graduation students will have accumulated more hours of work experience than in any other four-year hospitality management program in the country.


RIT's hospitality and tourism management program is among the nation's leading hospitality and travel management programs, recognized by Forbes, Travel Weekly, Nation's Restaurant News, and Corporate Travel magazines. The program is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges. Our alumni come from around the United States and from more than 38 countries.

Equipment & Facilities

The program prepares students for hospitality management through learning experiences at Henry’s, the school’s 75 seat full-service, liquor licensed restaurant and at the RIT Inn and Conference Center which is a premier full service hotel and conference facility.  RIT is also a strategic partner in the New York State Wine & Culinary Center and focuses on NY agriculture, the culinary arts, and hospitality and food management.
State-of-the-art equipment and laboratories, up to date cooking equipment and access to RITs technology labs.
