Once you have received an offer from an employer, come to the Student Employment Office to obtain your Employment Eligibility Card. If you are a new student worker, please follow the steps as outlined below to complete the new electronic verification process.
You may complete the employment verification process any time after an offer of employment has been made, but prior to being hired. Students will not be allowed to begin work until this process has been completed.
- Must have an offer of employment from an RIT hiring department.
- Be registered for a minimum of 12 credit hours (9 credit hours for graduate students).
1. Complete Section 1 of I-9
Immediately after you have been offered employment, you will be required to complete Section 1 of the government mandated I-9 form on-line at newi9.com
2. Complete Section 2 at SEO
Section 2 of the I-9 form must be completed in person in the Student Employment Office. You will need to bring original documentation to prove identity and eligibility to work. The complete list of acceptable documents can be found on the SEO website. You must submit one document from List ‘A’ OR one document from List ‘B’ AND one document from List ‘C’. All documents must be original. Copies are not accepted.
3. Getting your card
After completing the employment verification process, students will be provided with their 2016/2017 Employment Eligibility Card. This card is to be brought back to the department of hire to verify to the employer that the student has been verified and is eligible to work.
