The Hospitality and Tourism Management major prepares students for leadership positions in the hotel, restaurant, gaming, cruise, or other travel, tourism, and service industries.  Graduates are well-prepared to assume challenging roles in many different aspects of operations, strategy development, financial management, marketing, or technology.  All students will acquire a core bundle of hospitality knowledge and competencies including food and beverage management, lodging management, accounting, strategic management, human resources management, and data analytics.  In addition, our unique elective Pathways permits students to customize their degree by assembling a 3- to 5-course sequence in various disciplines from across the different colleges at RIT.  Students are only limited in what they can specialize by their imagination, and interests!

Within the core, students learn the ‘how-to’ of managing the resources of an organization to enhance customer satisfaction.  They will learn how to acquire the best raw material and inputs, how to motivate and lead, and to design and deliver a service that enhances customer satisfaction and loyalty.  They will learn how to manage people from different cultures in global settings.  The program ensures students will be well-prepared to be business managers with the ability to account for the profit or loss of an organization.  Building on this core, the very flexible ‘Elective Pathways’ program permits students to add a unique specialty including innovation, entrepreneurship, or additional marketing or finance courses.
