COS/CHST Spring Networking Event
COS/CHST Networking Event
This spring, we're providing an opportunity for you to connect with Career Fair companies, local employers, and RIT alumni the evening before the Career Fair. At this event, you'll be able to talk with company representatives and alumni interested specifically in science and health sciences students, about potential co-op/internship or full-time opportunities at their companies. You'll also talk with alumni from your program, to find out more about their career path and get tips and suggestions for your own job search from someone who's been there. You'll come away from this event with contacts, information, advice, and even potential job leads!
Networking is the number one way to find a job, so take advantage of this opportunity to grow your network! For all students who register for this event, your resume will be sent to all attending company representatives and alumni. Students are responsible for requesting interpreting services; to submit requests go to https://myaccess.rit.eduRegister on Handshake.

Frequently Asked Questions:
1. What should I expect? What is the format?
Employer representatives will be clearly identified with Employer Ribbons and students can engage in a more lengthy conversation than what might be possible at the Career Fair. All of the employers that registered for this reception have an explicit interest in talking to science and health sciences students. Alumni will also be identified with Alumni Ribbons, and you'll be able to talk with them about their career paths, and ask advice for your own career or job search. Work the room in a professional manner and be sure to familiarize yourself with the list of companies and alumni that are registered to attend. (The list will be provided by email prior to the event.)
2. What should I wear?
This event is informal, but business casual dress would be a good choice. Remember you’re still trying to make a good first impression, and represent yourself and your college.
3. What should I bring with me?
Be sure to bring plenty of copies of your resume. You can also bring any relevant samples of your work or academic projects that you think may be of interest to employers. A pad-folio or folder would be a good idea too so that you can collect business cards in one place and jot down any notes you may want to take for reference later.
4. What should I do to prepare for the event?
Research the companies; check their posted positions, determine where you would fit into the company, practice your Elevator Pitch – an introduction that includes your academics, skills, experience and anything that sets you apart from the competition. Also research alumni - check their profiles on LinkedIn so you have an idea of what to ask them.
5. How do I approach the employers and alumni, and what should I say?
The employers are here seeking talent that they can recruit for co-op or full-time permanent positions. This is your opportunity to use your elevator pitch. Use your time wisely; don’t waste it. Focus on what makes you unique in your program, or demonstrate that you have done your research and talk about what is so appealing to you about that particular company and how you can benefit the organization. Alumni are here to share their experiences, and provide advice, information, resources and guidance to students. Don't hesitate to talk with them about your career goals and ask their advice!
