A Tale of Two Trash Species: Understanding Biodiversity’s Response to Novelty
Dr. TJ Firneno
Assistant Professor, Gosnell School of Life Sciences
Rochester Institute of Technology
Abstract: When you look outside, you can observe hundreds of species without even realizing it….and when you think even more about it, the biodiversity that we can observe on earth is astounding and incredibly complex. Specifically, my research tries to understand the adaptive mechanisms by which biodiversity is generated and maintained in response to novelty. This talk will delve into some of my past and ongoing research involving two unassuming organisms - the true toad and the field cricket - and how they can help us answer exciting and interesting questions in biology.
