SUMMARY:INGS 2022 Conable Symposium - "Recentering Pacific Asia: Regional
China and the Global Order," Brantly Womack Ph.D.
DTSTART:20220405T193000Z

LOCATION:Liberal Arts Hall: 1251 (McKenzie Commons)
DESCRIPTION:
Since 2008, China has become the economic center of
Pacific Asia (East and Southeast Asia), and Pacific Asia the largest and
most dynamic part of the global economy. Is China returning to its
traditional role as Pacific Asia’s center, or is it trying to establish
a new colonial hegemony? How does China’s regional situation relate to
its global power? Is the United States now a declining power under
threat from China? Will the rivalry between the United States and China
lead to a new Cold War? These questions require a basic rethinking of
the past and present of China, Pacific Asia, and world politics in order
to understand our future options.
