Microscopes (SEMs) are widely used imaging and characterization tools
across various fields, including science, engineering, and medicine.
Despite their broad application, SEMs remain insufficiently characterized
and imperfectly understood. This talk will focus on general education of
imaging using SEMs while highlighting recent advancements in the field of
SEM optics. Specifically, the presentation will address two key aspects
of improving SEM performance through the application of wave optics and
quantum optics principles. By employing wave optical formulations, we can
recover phase information, which is critical for sensing aberrations.
Furthermore, by leveraging concepts of quantum optics, we will explore
the potential for achieving sub-shot noise imaging in
 SEMs.</span></span></span></p>

earned his PhD in Imaging Science and a master’s in physics from RIT,
where he received the Outstanding Master’s Thesis Award from the RIT
Graduate School. He completed his bachelor's in computer engineering at
V.I.I.T, Pune, India and held research positions at the Indian Institute
of Technology (IIT) Delhi and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research
(TIFR), Mumbai. Further, he also gained industry experience as an
Electron Optics Engineer at ASML Inc in San Jose for eight months. During
his time at RIT, he served as President of the SPIE-OPTICA student
chapter and as Regional Liaison for the Microscopy Society of America for
two years and is committed to promoting optics and microscopy education
 and outreach.</span></span></span></p>
