Abstract
:

Quantum technologies are poised to reshape modern industry, with potential impact across computing, sensing, and communication. Among the leading platforms, trapped ions offer a highly controlled approach for preparing, manipulating, and measuring fragile quantum states with exceptional precision.
In this talk, we will present our group’s recent contributions to quantum sensing and computing using few-ion trapped-ion systems. We will highlight how ion-trap qubits can enable near-term applications, not through brute-force scaling alone, but through identifying the specific experimental “recipes” that generate meaningful quantum advantage beyond simple runtime speedups. We will also place these developments in context by distinguishing robust scientific progress from the surrounding industry hype.
