Do you notice how much The Commons has changed over the years? Located in the CSD Student Development Center, the Hettie L. Shumway Commons was named after Hettie Lakin Shumway, the wife of Frank Ritter Shumway, famous American figure skater and founder of Genesee Figure Skating Club. The Shumways were generous donors and had a long history with the Institute as their grandfather, Frank Ritter, also founded RIT’s predecessor - the Mechanics Institute. After going through a major renovation in spring 2005, the Commons was reopened in fall 2006 with new sets of furnitures and facilities. Today, Stone Oven pizza, Hettie’s Grill, and Shumway Subs & Salads are among the wide selection of menu choices served to the diners. In addition, students can also make their orders online and have their food delivered to the dorms, apartments, or buildings.
