Hettie Shumway Building

Do you know what this building was originally named? The home of the popular dining location The Commons was originally called the Hettie Shumway Building. Beginning in 2005 it was expanded to a new facility based on the concept of promoting students’ experience and opportunities through leadership, community service, and recreational activities. Rechristened the Communication Service for the Deaf (CSD) Student Development Center, it is home to NTID Student Congress and various multicultural organizations for the deaf and hard of hearing students at RIT. It was named after Communication Service for the Deaf, Inc., a non-profit organization for the deaf and hard of hearing community
