Max Lowenthal Hall

Right across from Gleason Circle, home to the Sounders College of Business and the famously comfortable couches located in its lobby, is Max Lowenthal Hall. Named in 1978, Lowenthal himself was one of the original member of the Board of Trustees, a key figure in the founding of the Mechanics Institute in 1885. The College of Business itself was officially endowed in 1960, and the college moved from Eastman Hall to Lowenthal Hall in 1982.

In the images above, you’ll notice how much the exterior has changed and that the Three Piece Reclining Figure was originally in front of the building (now stationed in the Eastman Quadrangle).
