The Pumpkin Launch, also known as Pumpkin Chunkin’, is an annual event held during the RIT Brick City Homecoming. Teams of engineering technology students from CAST would compete in launching three-to-five pound pumpkins by building human-powered launching devices, such as: giant catapults or slingshots. In order for a chunk to be qualified for count, the pumpkin must remain whole after leaving the device. The winner is determined based on the team’s creativity as well as the distance reached after firing the pumpkin. Since its beginning in 2001, this competition has become one of RIT's most popular events and has attracted many visitors.
