Jody Nolan

Fire Safety Program Manager

Jody has been an EH&S Department member since February 1993 when she first came to work at RIT. Initially, Jody came to RIT as a Fire Safety Specialist, and her role has evolved to include responsibility for occupational safety and health and environmental health and safety. Jody brings extensive fire safety experience with her to RIT, formerly serving as a Lieutenant, Financial Secretary, Fire Department Safety Officer, and is currently an Executive Board Member of the NYS Fire Marshals and Inspectors Association.

Jody's primary responsibilities at RIT are to ensure compliance with national, State and local fire and building codes, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, including: bloodborne pathogens, machine guarding, hazard communication and confined space entry, among others, and to investigate occupational health and safety incidents on campus. Jody also uses her fire service background by reviewing construction plans for all renovations and new construction on campus for fire and building code compliance and coordinating with the Henrietta Fire Marshal to obtain building permits. Jody also serves as the Liaison with RIT Property Insurance carriers.

Jody holds numerous NYS certifications, and uses these to serve and educate the RIT community. She is a NYS Certified Code Enforcement Official, a NYS certified Police Instructor by the Bureau for Municipal Police and Department of Criminal Justice Services. Jody is Past President of the NYS Fire Marshals and Inspectors Association and remains an Executive Board member. She is also an active member of the Monroe County Fire Marshals and Inspectors Association, the Center for Campus Fire Safety and the International Code Council (ICC) and serves on the ICC Reference Standards Committee. Jody holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from RIT from the School of Individualized Study (formerly known as Multidisciplinary Studies).
