Frequently Asked Questions

What are some things I should consider when looking for a new roommate(s)?

Some things to consider when looking for a new roommate(s) are:

  1. You need to be able to speak up about your needs, and respect your roommate's needs as well.
  2. Do you share the same values as your roommate(s)?
  3. What kind of living conditions do you prefer? Does everything always need to be neat and in its place? Can you deal with an occasional mess? Or do you prefer utter chaos?
  4. Do you lead a quiet, private lifestyle? Do you prefer the night life? Do you mix between the two?
  5. How do you want to handle groceries? Do you want to share or do you go by the every-one-out-for-themselves-so-get-your-own theory? Discuss how you'd like to handle shared items, such as toilet paper, dish detergent, ketchup, etc.
  6. Do you like to clean as needed? Or do you prefer having a set schedule?
  7. How do you feel about sharing your personal belongings and items?
  8. How do you feel about guests? Are their certain quiet hours needed by you or your roommate(s)? What about you or your roommate(s)' significant other?
  9. Apartment living requires financial planning and responsibility. Can you and your roommates set a date when everyone agrees to pay the cable internet bill, if applicable, and any other common bills?

Can I list information about non-RIT housing apartment on Housing Connection?

RIT Housing Connection does not accept off-campus listings. There are, however, several non-RIT online resources that local renters can contact to post listings. Resources for locating off-campus housing can be found by conducting a web search.

Important note regarding non-RIT housing: The Henrietta Town Code prohibits more than 3 unrelated people from living together in a single-family home. If you live with people who are not your relatives and rent or own a single-family home in Henrietta, this code may apply to you. This code does not apply to RIT on-campus housing or apartment complexes in Henrietta.
