General Education at RIT comprises a Foundational course in writing, eight Perspective courses in the core liberal arts and sciences, and a cluster of three courses that form an Immersion. Students also complete one Writing Intensive course within General Education, and another within their degree program. With two additional courses, students can build on their Immersion to earn a Minor.

The College of Liberal Arts plays a key role in delivering the general education curriculum with a wide selection of Writing Intensive courses, the bulk of courses in Global, Ethical, Artistic, and Social Perspectives, and innovative and engaging Immersions in the humanities and social sciences.

Immersion—a series of three related general education courses that further broaden a student’s judgment and understanding within a specific area through deeper learning. RIT’s available Immersions are listed on the here.
