RIT robotics manufacturing assessment project underway with international giant, Schlumberger

For most manufacturers, robotics can seem like an expensive, high-risk investment. But a new partnership between RIT and Schlumberger promises to change that.

In January, engineers from the Center of Excellence began working with Schlumberger and the Association for Advancing Automation on a robotics assessment project funded through the Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing (ARM) Institute. The project aims to

  1. develop guidelines to evaluate a manufacturer’s existing processes, identify associated risks with robotic automation, and make decisions for robotic-technology adoption and expansion; and
  2. create a software tool that simplifies the fit assessment for robotics based on user input that considers the unique needs of each organization.

These tools will help manufacturers fill in the blanks and move in the right direction when it comes to adopting robotic technologies. Ultimately, this project intends to give manufacturers more confidence in their decision-making so they can take advantage of the productivity benefits that robotics can deliver.
