We are presenting our medical finger and toe warmer. The goal of this project was to make a medical device that would be used to help patients in the ICU that are on vasopressors. Vasopressors are drugs that constrict the blood vessels to raise blood pressure. Although these drugs can be lifesaving, there is a fine line, and most patients have the risk of losing their fingers and toes if the blood vessels constrict too much. Our device applies the well know principal that an increase of temperature in surrounding tissues can dilate blood vessels to lead to an increase in blood flow. The device has a heating element and a compressive element to increase blood flow and circulation in the fingers and toes. There are also safety measures in the device that protect the patient from burning and over compression. Our project is sponsored by Rochester Regional Health. Come try out our device!
