Project IRIS
IRIS is a project that aims to make smartphones accessible for the Deaf and hard-of-hearing users. Telecommunications Relay Services will be built into the smartphone and the customer can choose their Video Relay Service and call captioning provider in the phone’s accessibility settings. The customer needs to remember the number that comes with the smartphone. IRIS also benefits hearing people by providing 3-Party Video calls with an interpreter. It offers Next-Gen 911 in which the smartphone connects to Public Safety through VRS and the phone’s GPS leads first responders directly to the person in distress.
