SMASH Experience for Girls: Go with the Flow

Location

Thomas Gosnell Hall - GOS-1125

Have you ever noticed when someone spills their coffee on the table and leaves it there to dry what is left behind is a ring? This phenomenon is called "the coffee-ring effect". It can be explained by advection, a way to transfer materials by fluid flow or by "going with the flow". A similar mechanism causes the formation of eye boogers, eww! In this exhibit, participants will conduct a set of experiments to connect the mathematical idea of slope with physical phenomena relate to advection.
