The VR Planetarium is a DHSS project in which we'll be developing a Virtual Reality application for usage in educational forums to allow accurate stargazing in locations where it is not usually possible. Our focus is to create an accurate and easily available application that can be used to view the night sky from various locations worldwide. This will include displaying the stars based on data collected by the HYG Database of stars to alter the color, size, and luminosity of the stars visible. The application will also include settings and options to explore the effects of modern society on the visibility of the stars and access to this type of learning worldwide. Our end goal is to develop an accessible application to allow young astronomers the opportunity to explore this topic regardless of their home locations, and to do so in an educational and accurate manner.
