A collaborative robot, also known as a cobot, is a robot that is capable of learning multiple tasks so it can assist human beings. They have many advantages over regular industrial robots. As of today, the majority of industrial robots are still autonomous meaning they cannot work alongside Humans. They are expensive, large and reside behind barriers for safety reasons. At Century Mold Collaborative Robotics Laboratory (CMCR) we showcase the benefits of using collaborative robots, along with new sensors and algorithms developed at RIT that can help cobots work better alongside Humans. It is targeted towards improving safety and increasing productivity.
