Mechanical Heat Switch for Cryogenic Applications

Exhibit Code: ENG-2750
Zone: Engineering Park
Location: Engineering Hall (ENG/017) - Hallway
Time: All Day
Appropriate for all ages? Yes

Description:
Mechanical heat switches are devices used to assist in the cooling of test equipment in adiabatic refrigerators. They provide a physical pathway for heat to be conducted between a salt pill and a thermal sink. The released heat from the salt pill flows through the switch and into the sink. This process repeats until the system reaches the desired temperature.
