HOURS: 8:30am - 5:00pm
HOURS A WEEK: up to 40


Work on day-to-day activities involved with maintaining the RIT campus voice and data network. This will include the monitoring of trouble calls that come into the office and working with Communication Specialists to resolve voice and data network problems and special assignments. 


Interacting directly with customers. Provide effective, courteous, and timely responses to requests for service. Interact with students, faculty, and staff on the phone, in person, and through electronic mail. Perform termination for both data and voice lines. Perform activation of data lines. Coordinate the placement and installation of new hardware. Maintain records of equipment inventory and data jack connections. Troubleshoot reported voice and data problems. Assist in the resolution of communication hardware problems. Provide technical assistance to internal users of the RIT voice and data networks.


Telecommunication and network skills. Demonstrate understanding of and ability to deliver excellent customer service. Excellent telephone manner along with verbal and written communication skills are essential. Thorough documentation of work activities is expected. Demonstrate initiative, and ability to learn what you don’t currently know.


Familiarity with Cisco IOS, 110 block cabling, cable making experience and experience using cable testers is required. Show a general knowledge of office applications (Microsoft Office, etc.) and Internet client programs (web browsers, terminal emulators, FTP clients, etc).
