Dr. Kenneth Hsu obtained his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI, an M.S. from University of Wisconsin, and his B.S. degree from National Taiwan Normal University, both in Engineering Education. He also took graduate courses in IC Design from University of Illinois and M.I.T. in Boston.

Dr. Hsu founded the VLSI Design Lab, the Computer Engineering Mentoring Lab, and the Freescale Embedded Systems Lab. His teaching and research includes the areas of the Interface and Digital Electronics, Digital Systems, and VLSI Design and Synthesis. He has been the Director of SOC Center and the Freescale Embedded Systems Lab. His research focuses on IC chip design, simulation, synthesis and verification of IC chips, and embedded systems with Freescale MCUs. He obtained the donated Freescale Microcontrollers kits for each student to use in Assembly Language and Interface and Digital Electronics.  Prior to that, Dr. Hsu obtained a $20 million EDA equipment donation from Synopsys Inc. in 1996  to start the SOC Center. He also secured the donation of the IC design, layout and simulation tool suites from Mentor Graphics. Dr. Hsu was invited to serve as an Associate Editor, IEEE Transaction on VLSI Design for 3 years in 1990s.  This makes the VLSI Design Lab one of the best in the U.S.  Dr. Hsu founded International ASIC Conference (now is known as International SOC Conference) in Rochester in 1988. Dr. Hsu has served in various SOC Conference Technical Program committee He conducted IC chip design as an R&D Researcher in Kodak Microelectronics Technology Lab, when he received a US Patent for his IC for color-matrixing for digital camera in 1992. Recently Dr. Hsu and his research team have invented an eHealth Intelligence System.

Dr. Hsu has is especially proud of these accomplishments:

IEEE Region One Outstanding Teaching Award for his Outstanding Contributions to Education in Integrated Circuit Design, August 15, 2010.

Special Recognition Award from at the Freescale Rochester Technology Symposium for his Contributions as co-founder of the Symposium on November 4, 2010.

Recognition for his contributions as founder of the Motorola Foundation Mentoring Lab (now Computer Engineering Mentoring Lab), and the VLSI Design Lab and the Freescale Embedded System Lab at RIT.

Keynote Speaker at the 25th Anniversary Celebration dinner, IEEE International IEEE SOC Conference held in Niagara Falls, New York September 12 – 14, 2012.

Founder of the International Conference in 1988 as the IEEE Rochester Section Chairman. The IEEE International System-on-Chip Conference is now a worldwide premier conference in IC Chip design.
