Fellowship Opportunities


Amelia Earhart Fellowship Deadline: Nov. 15, 2017


  • Women of any nationality pursuing a doctoral degree who demonstrate a superior academic record in the field of aerospace-related sciences or aerospace-related engineering are eligible.
  • Students must be registered in a full-time doctoral program and completed at least one year of the program or have received a master’s degree in an aerospace-related at the time the application is submitted.
  • Applicants must not graduate from their doctoral program before April 2019

HENAAC Scholarship Deadline:  April 30 Deadline each year for the following academic year


  • Applicants must demonstrate merit through academic achievements, leadership and campus/community activities
  • Applicants must be pursuing a science, technology, engineering or math degree
  • Applicants must have an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale/li>
  • Applicants must be of Hispanic origin and/or must significantly demonstrate leadership or service within the Hispanic community
  • Recipients must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program for the preceding fall semester, at an accredited 2-yr or 4-yr college/university in the U.S. or its territories

AGMA Foundation Scholarships Deadline: for the 2018 Scholarship Awards is July 1, 2018.


  • The AGMA Foundation awards scholarships to outstanding engineering students at the Associate/Technical, Undergraduate, and Graduate levels.
  • The scholarship program was created to help fill the need for skilled employees in the gear industry.
  • Scholarship recipient follow-up demonstrates the success of this program, as 86% of recipients are currently employed in gearing.

Hertz Foundation 2015-2016 Fellowship Applications Deadline: October 17


  • Students in applied physical and biological sciences, mathematics, and engineering
  • Citizens or permanent residents of USA
  • Willing to morally commit to the make their skills available to the US in time of national emergency
  • Graduate students should not be beyond their first year of graduate study

Ford Foundation Graduate Fellowship Applications Application Deadline: Dec. 14, 2017


  • US citizen, permanent resident, or DACCA
  • Ph.D. or Sc.D. degree candidates studying in an eligible research-based discipline in a dissertation-required program at a non-proprietary (not for profit) U.S. institution of higher education who will complete the dissertation during the 2018-2019 academic year, but no later than fall 2019, and
  • Individuals who have not earned a doctoral degree at any time, in any field.

NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Application Deadline: October 24, 2017

Eligibility: Graduate students pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees in STEM

Dept. of Defense NDSEG Fellowship Application process begins in September


  • US citizen or national trained in science and engineering disciplines of military importance
  • Graduate students who have demonstrated the ability and special aptitude for advance training in science and engineering and who will pursue a degree in one of 15 STEM fields

Tau Bet Pi Fellowship Deadline February 1, 2018


  • Restricted to initiated members of the Tau Beta Pi Association on the date the fellowship is awarded
  • Graduate students pursuing full time study in a field that advances the engineering profession

IEEE Scholarships and Fellowships Deadline Nov. 30 annually


  • Must be a member of IEEE
  • Graduate student pursuing advanced degree in the following areas: dielectrics and electrical insulation, electron devices, microwave theory and techniques

AAUW Fellowships for Women Doctoral Students Applications are open August 1- November 15


  • Candidates must be US citizens or permanent residents of US
  • The American Dissertation Fellowship must be used for the final year of writing the dissertation. Applicants must have completed all coursework, passed all preliminary exams, and had the dissertation research proposal or plan approved by November 15, 2017. The doctoral degree/dissertation must be completed between April 1 and June 30, 2019. Degree conferral must be between April 1 and September 15, 2019.
  • Students already holding a fellowship or grant for the purpose of supporting their final year of writing or completing the dissertation the year before the fellowship year are not eligible to apply.
  • Applicants may apply up to two times for a fellowship for the same dissertation project.
  • The fellowship is intended for applicants who are completing their first doctoral degree.

Anita Borg Technical Leadership Awards for Women Nominations open January 25.

  • Eligible nominees must work on projects that require deep technical knowledge and must demonstrate a commitment to increasing the representation of women in technology. Recipients are honored by the technical women’s community at the Grace Hopper Celebration and invited to give a presentation on their work and accomplishments at the conference.

Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship Deadline January 19, 2018


  • Candidates must be US citizens or permanent residents of US
  • Full-time student working toward your Ph.D. at a U.S. university
  • The DOE CSGF cannot be accepted concurrently with another federal fellowship.

Global Sustainable Energy Project

  • graduates with excellent grades in the top 20% of her/his class
  • is determined to advance her/his knowledge and understanding
  • has a history of community involvement
  • is committed to sustainable energy
  • is committed to return and contribute to her/his home country
  • plan to undertake studies at the master’s level in areas directly related to sustainable energy development
  • be citizens of the developing countries and territories identified for OECD official development aid in the DAC List of ODA Recipients as of 2016

GEM Fellowships for Minorities


  • Candidates are targeted for participation who are members of the following under-represented groups in science and engineering as defined by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics
  1. American Indian/Native
  2. African American/Black
  3. Hispanic American/Latino
  • Citizenship: Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident at time of application.
  • Applicants are strongly encouraged to take the GRE to qualify for multiple GEM Member University programs. Applicants will be asked to provide test dates and/or GRE scores when available.

Semiconductor Research Corporation Fellowships Competition open Nov. 7, 2017-Feb. 10, 2018


  • U.S. citizens or have permanent resident, refugee, or political asylum status in the U.S.;
  • Pursuing or planning to pursue a Ph.D. degree with research relevant to microelectronics and associated technology under the guidance of an SRC-approved faculty member and with at least two years to completion of the doctoral degree;
  • Will be performing research under a program approved by SRC; and
  • Willing to provide a copy of his/her Ph.D. dissertation to SRC for potential publication to the SRC website.

IBM Fellowships Applications accepted for five weeks beginning the third week in September


  • Students must be nominated by a doctoral faculty member and enrolled full-time in a college or university Ph.D. program. The faculty member is encouraged to contact an IBM colleague prior to submitting the nomination to assure mutual interest.
  • Students from Europe and Russia may be nominated in their first year of study in their doctoral program. Outside of Europe and Russia, students must have completed at least one year of study in their doctoral program at the time of their nomination.
  • Students from U.S. embargoed countries are not eligible for the program.
  • While students may accept other supplemental fellowships, to be eligible for the IBM Ph.D. Fellowship Award they may not accept a major award in addition to the IBM Ph.D. Fellowship.

SPIE Fellowships Deadline Feb. 15


  • Must be a student member of SPIE
  • Must be enrolled in optics, photonics, or other related program
  • Students who have obtained a PhD are not eligible to apply
