Multidisciplinary Senior Design Space

GLE-4th floor

The Senior Design Space is used by undergraduate engineering students from all disciplines as they complete their 2-term capstone design projects.  The capstone design experience provides students with the opportunity to apply their core disciplinary coursework to solve an engineering problem through design.  Students participate in the design process – from problem definition through to construction, testing, and evaluation – in small teams comprised of students from multiple engineering disciplines.  In some cases, engineering students may also have the opportunity to work with students from outside the college; for example, recent teams have included students from business, industrial design, and software engineering.  Students typically take the Multidisciplinary Senior Design course in their fifth year and use the Senior Design Center.  The floor provides a large open space populated with small tables that can be used both for large class workshops and individual team meeting space, classrooms for presentations or larger group meetings, storage lockers for individual teams, and cubicles with storage for groups of teams working on similar or related projects.

Equipment and Resources

In addition to work, storage, and meeting space for undergraduate design teams, the Design Center office has basic hand tools available for students to check out, portable projectors for presentations, and rolling white boards for collaborative work.  Additional resources and equipment to support undergraduate design teams are found within the individual departments. The office is staffed full time during the work week and evenings as well.
