Luis Herrera received his BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee at Martin and his PhD Electrical Engineering from The Ohio State University with a focus on power electronics and control in 2015. Dr. Herrera received the Ohio Space Grant Consortium (OSGC) doctoral fellowship sponsored by NASA during his PhD studies. Prior to joining the Department of Electrical and Microelectronic Engineering at RIT, he worked at the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) as Research Engineer on a project for the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) in Wright Patterson Air Force Base, OH.  His research interests include the integration of renewable sources and energy storage to the power grid and ac and/or dc microgrids. In addition, the application of control and optimization theory techniques to increase efficiency and improve performance of power electronics based systems.
