Call for assistance with COVID-related activities

One aspect of the university’s Safety Plan to contain the spread of COVID-19 is through wastewater testing. Recent sampling found trace evidence, which led to the immediate testing of several hundred students, faculty, and staff on three occasions to date.

In order to prepare for the next round of testing, whenever that may occur, we are actively seeking RIT employees to help support the testing center operations and to help with other response activities. Specifically, at this time, we need people to direct those being tested, check in participants, observe/witness individuals self-administering tests, and provide overall help.

Testing assistants need to be cleared to work on campus and will be trained on-site to help supplement the Student Affairs and F&A employees who have been staffing the centers to date. They must have permission from their supervisors to be released from their primary responsibilities with little to no advance warning as testing needs to be done as soon as there is any indication of the potential presence of COVID-19 on campus.

Please note that everyone will be wearing masks, and hand sanitizer and additional personal protective equipment (PPE) are available. Social distancing protocols will be observed. Volunteers must have had a COVID-19 test and provided proof of a negative result using the RIT Employee Self-serve Portal.

There is also a need for assistance that is not on site but involves outreach (e.g., calling, emailing, texting) to those students who did not respond to the notice they needed to be tested. This work can be done remotely.

If you are interested in helping with the campus-wide COVID-19 activities, please sign up online through Qualtrics.

Thank you in advance for your support of this important effort.
