Imagine RIT festival proves the future is bright
Thousands of visitors at the 2023 Imagine RIT: Creativity and Innovation Festival got to see what’s on the horizon in the areas of technology, the arts, and design. Festivalgoers traversed RIT’s campus on Saturday, exploring more than 350 exhibits.

Wegmans sponsors Women in Computing Collaboratory to promote diversity in tech industry
RIT’s Women in Computing organization is partnering with Wegmans to support diversity and inclusion in the computing industry. Wegmans is committing $200,000 throughout the next five years to the WiC group to support its work in advancing all women and gender minorities in computing.

A career in community health inspired Maricela Marquez ’18, ’22 MS to grow in her profession as an advocate for Latino patients. For Marquez, this meant advancing her career at Rochester Regional Health by enrolling in RIT’s health systems management Master of Science program.

RIT Athletics and the Wegmans School of Health and Nutrition partnered with Monroe High School in the Rochester City School District to bring student athletes to campus earlier this semester for hands-on learning about sports and nutrition.

Susan Fox earns 2023 Four Presidents Distinguished Public Service Award
With her multiple decades of service toward local causes including hunger prevention, education, refugee resettlement, and church community development, Susan Fox has earned RIT’s annual award for a faculty or staff member who has shown outstanding commitment to community service. Fox will receive the 2023 Four Presidents Distinguished Public Service Award at a ceremony on April 11.

Ukraine-themed meal has special meaning for RIT hospitality student
Hospitality and tourism management students at RIT were given an assignment in their restaurant and event management class: create a pop-up lunch for 200, and come up with the theme, menu, pricing, even marketing. Nika Pikulik decided to honor her homeland with a Ukraine-themed meal.

In Ilya Kaminsky’s Deaf Republic, villagers’ deafness becomes an act of revolt against a totalitarian government, and their use of sign language unites them as a community. These themes, along with others throughout the book, resonate with the contemporary experience of deafness in the United States.
