Astronaut to speak

NASA astronaut and U.S. Air Force Col. Pamela Melroy, the second American woman to qualify as a space shuttle pilot, will visit Rochester for a talk, A Trip to the International Space Station: What is the Future of Space Travel After the Columbia Incident?, at 7 p.m. on Oct. 24 in Lander Auditorium at the University of Rochester. Melroy, a 1979 graduate of Bishop Kearney High School, piloted two shuttle flights and is a combat veteran of operations Just Cause, Desert Shield and Desert Storm. The free lecture is co-sponsored by RIT’s College of Applied Science and Technology, Kate Gleason College of Engineering, Society of Women Engineers student section and Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society.
