RIT Conference Celebrates Rich Romantic Roots

Rochester Institute of Technology will host The Fate of Romanticism: From Faust to the Present—an exploration of the deep romantic heritage of contemporary movements in philosophy, cultural studies and the arts.

The three-day event, Dec. 13-15, will be conducted in a traditional ‘salon’ format, encouraging members of both the Rochester and RIT communities to view, react and critique various artistic works, creating a collaborative environment where no one work has a single author.

Through the presentation of scholarly papers, visual art, music, poetry and theatre, The Fate of Romanticism allows participants to experience artistic works with common romantic themes, such as human limitation, reason and integrity, through the use of a specific medium.

The Fate of Romanticism conference is open to the public and all events are free of charge, except for the theatre production of “OurFaust,” which will be performed at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14.
