The Rochester Institute of Technology is getting a piece of a $20 million federal grant from the National Science Foundation to research more reliable ways to create solar cells.

The school is joining a team of universities from across the country to help make a molecule maker lab institute.

RIT will be focusing on using artificial intelligence to speed up automated chemical synthesis, which will help scientists discover new ways to manufacture novel materials and bio-active compounds.

The National Science Foundation is investing another $80 million for the research over the next five years.
