RIT Hosts Career Day for Girls, Aug. 20

Girls will learn about careers in astronomy, imaging science and engineering

Rochester Institute of Technology’s Chester F. Carlson Center will host a career day next week for girls of all ages interested in science and technology.

The free event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, in the Carlson Building at RIT’s Center for Imaging Science.

The Center will partner with several local companies, such Xerox and Pictometry, and the NASA NIR-Cam program, a project to develop new sensors for use in astronomical research, to show girls what they need to get started on careers in astronomy, imaging science, engineering, and other related technical fields. Girls will also learn about the kinds of jobs women hold in these fields and how technology could shape future career options.

For more information about the career day, call Joe Pow, associate director of RIT’s Center for Imaging Science, at 475-7323 or pow@cis.rit.edu.
