Glass pumpkins ready for picking Sept. 27

One-of-a-kind, hand-blown glass pumpkins, gourds, vases and other favorites will be for sale during the 10th annual School for American Crafts’ Glass Pumpkin Patch fundraiser on Sept. 27.

An annual fall tradition returns to Rochester Institute of Technology this weekend when this year’s fall crop of one-of-a-kind glass pumpkins—including some that glow in the dark—and other favorites are ready to be picked.

The School for American Crafts’ (SAC) glass program in RIT’s College of Imaging Arts and Sciences will sell its unique, hand-blown glass pumpkins, gourds, vases and more during the 10th annual Glass Pumpkin Patch fundraiser. The sale will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, in RIT’s Red Barn, located on the west side of campus off Minett Drive.

Students and faculty from SAC’s glass program have created the colorful hand-blown glass pieces. Cash, checks and credit card payments will be accepted.

All proceeds from the sale will benefit the SAC Glass Visiting Artists Series and the RIT Women’s Council Scholarships.

The Rochester Arc + Flame Center (RocAFC) is a new sponsor of the event this year. Michael Krupnicki, who earned his executive MBA from the Saunders College of Business in 1999, is executive director and founder of RocAFC. In addition to a number of alumni who teach courses there, the center provides co-ops to current SAC students every year.
