RIT Press to host conference on photography
PhotoHistory/PhotoFuture conference is seeking scholarly papers and panel proposals for presentation consideration
Next year, Rochester will be home to a new three-day conference that will provide a cross-disciplinary exploration of the past, present and future of photography.
PhotoHistory/PhotoFuture conference will take place April 20-22, 2018, and is sponsored and organized by RIT Press, Rochester Institute of Technology’s scholarly book publishing enterprise, and The Wallace Center at RIT.
“We are inviting a diverse range of scholars, practitioners and professionals from RIT and across the nation,” said Bruce Austin, director of RIT Press. “In addition to exploring photography’s history, we will examine its present day expression and projected opportunities and challenges in applications such as drones, body cameras, social media, journalism, environmental and other settings.”
Conference organizers are accepting scholarly papers and panel proposals for presentation consideration until Nov. 15. They encourage submissions by scholars from a wide variety of academic disciplines, including but not limited to: history, archives, photography, communication, digital humanities, criminology and criminal justice, computer science, public policy, imaging, economics, museum studies, fine arts and library science.
In addition to scholarly presentations and panels, the event will feature special events and exhibitions hosted throughout the Rochester area and conclude with a photography-focused antique show and sale on Sunday, April 22.
